By living at AfterHouse Recovery, you agree to follow these rules at all times. Violations may result in a warning, probationary status, or immediate removal from the house depending on severity. All residents are expected to review and sign these rules upon move-in.
Sobriety
- Zero tolerance for alcohol or drugs of any kind — including marijuana, regardless of prescription or legal status in Iowa.
- Possession of alcohol, drugs, or drug paraphernalia on the premises results in immediate discharge.
- You must disclose all prescribed medications to house management at move-in. Changes must be reported promptly.
- No unauthorized medications. All prescriptions must be stored per house policy.
Drug Testing
- Random drug and alcohol testing is conducted regularly. All residents are subject to testing at any time.
- You must submit to testing when requested. Refusal is treated as a positive result.
- A positive test result may result in immediate discharge.
- Testing costs may be passed to the resident.
Curfew & Overnight
- Curfew is 10:00 PM Sunday–Thursday and 11:00 PM Friday–Saturday.
- If you will be late or absent, notify house management before curfew — not after.
- Overnight passes require advance approval from house management.
- Unapproved overnight absences are a violation. Repeated violations may result in discharge.
Meetings & Recovery Programs
- All residents must attend a minimum of 3 recovery meetings per week (AA, NA, or approved equivalent).
- Meeting attendance must be documented and submitted weekly.
- Mandatory house meetings are held weekly. Attendance is required.
- Active participation in a 12-step or other structured recovery program is strongly encouraged.
Employment & Daily Purpose
- All residents are expected to be actively pursuing employment, education, vocational training, or an approved treatment program within 30 days of move-in.
- Residents not enrolled in a program and not working are subject to review.
- Daytime hours (8 AM – 5 PM) should be spent productively outside the residence unless otherwise approved.
Chores & Household Responsibilities
- Every resident is assigned weekly chores. Chores rotate on a regular schedule.
- Common areas — kitchen, bathrooms, living room, entryway — must be kept clean at all times.
- Clean up after yourself immediately after cooking or using shared spaces.
- Label and store personal food in designated areas. Do not use or discard other residents' food.
- Personal rooms must be kept reasonably clean and orderly. Inspections may be conducted.
Guests
- Guests must be approved by house management in advance.
- Guests are not permitted to stay overnight.
- Guests are not allowed in other residents' bedrooms without permission.
- You are responsible for your guest's behavior while on the premises.
- Anyone not approved to be in the house will be asked to leave.
Respect & Conduct
- Treat all housemates, staff, and visitors with respect at all times.
- Physical violence or threats will result in immediate discharge and may involve law enforcement.
- Verbal abuse, harassment, or intimidation is not tolerated.
- Noise must be kept at reasonable levels — especially after 10 PM.
- No romantic or sexual relationships with other residents of the same house.
Fees & Finances
- Rent is due on the 1st of each month (or per your agreed payment schedule).
- A grace period of 5 days is allowed. After that, a late fee applies.
- Failure to pay rent without an approved arrangement may result in discharge.
- No subletting, lending, or transferring your bed to another person.
Property & Premises
- Do not damage house property. You are responsible for damages you cause.
- No smoking inside the residence. Designated outdoor areas only.
- Pets are not permitted without prior written approval.
- Do not make alterations to the property (painting, mounting, modifications).
- AfterHouse is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.
Zero-Tolerance Items — Immediate Discharge
The following result in immediate removal from the property with no exceptions: alcohol or drug use on premises, possession of drugs or paraphernalia, violence or threats of violence, bringing unauthorized individuals into the residence, and any illegal activity.
